Since the beginning of this year there have been 52 motorcycle accidents in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, and Polk Counties. In those 52 accidents, 40 people have died as a result of their injuries. This is an appalling statistic and should warrant concern in both the biker community, law enforcement, and the larger motorist community. Some of these accidents have occurred as a result of excessive speed, alcohol or substance use, driver inattention, or poor sight lines. Whatever the cause, 40 deaths in such a small area is 40 too many.
